Cylinder

  • I have a circular top and base.
  • My top and base are parallel to each other.
  • I have one curved, lateral side.



Examples:

  • Soup can
  • Pop can

Prisms

  • I have a polygon base and top that are identical.
  • Each of my sides is a rectangle.
  • I am named by the shape of my base:
    • triangular prism (triangle base)
    • square prism (square base)
    • hexagonal prism (hexagon base)

 

Examples:

  • Cereal box (rectangular prism)
  • Toblerone bar (triangular prism)


Cone

  • I have a circular base and a point (apex) for a top.
  • I have one curved side.

 

Examples:

  • Ice-cream cone
  • Construction cones
  • Teepee

 

 



Pyramids

  • I have a polygon base.
  • I have triangles for sides.
  • My top is a point (apex).
  • I am named by the shape of my base:
    • triangular pyramid (triangle base)
    • rectangular pyramid (rectangular base)
    • square pyramid (square base)
