Sam's Cat, Jumbles

llustrated by Menghan Liu

On Monday morning Sam came to school looking very sad.  Taylor noticed how sad Sam was.

Taylor went over to talk to Sam.  He asked Sam why he was so sad.

Sam told Taylor that he could not find his cat, Jumbles, last night.  Sam and his Mom looked for Jumbles everywhere.  Finally they found Jumbles in the laundry room.  She looked very ill.

Sam and his mom took Jumbles to the Veterinarian.  Dr. Gordon told them that Jumbles was very sick.  She was very old and that she would not get well again.  Sam and his mom said good-bye to Jumbles.

Taylor listened carefully to Sam’s story.  He put his arm on Sam’s shoulder.  He told Sam of the time his dog had died.  Taylor told Sam that things would get better, but that Sam could talk to Taylor anytime.

Sam felt much better.  Taylor then went with Sam to tell the teacher what had happened.

A Roller Coaster Rider

Illustrated by Kelly Chen

Jill and Sandy went to the Fair with Sandy’s mom and dad.  There so many wonderful things to see, to smell, to eat and to do.  Everyone was very excited!

Jill told Sandy that this was the year they would be tall enough to ride the Rocketman Roller Coaster.  Jill was very excited to ride that Coaster, so they went as quickly as they could to get in line.

When Sandy saw the big roller coaster, she was very nervous.  She really wanted to try the roller coaster, but she was a little bit scared.  That Rocketman sure was huge.

Jill was so excited.  She looked at Sandy and saw how nervous Sandy appeared. Jill said, “C’mon Sandy, you’re not scared, are you?  Only a baby would be scared of a little old roller coaster like this!  If you’re too scared, I’m just gonna go all by myself.”  Those words hurt Sandy.  Now she was really too scared to go on the Rocketman.
