This is Narcissus from Greek Mythology. Examine his photo.

Narcissus was a handsome youth. However, his good looks were only rivaled by his vanity . He thought quite a lot of himself and despaired of finding a woman as beautiful as him to marry.

Though Narcissus was known for his physical beauty, he was not thought to have a great intellect. Learning and knowledge held no importance to Narcissus. He held no interest in marrying a woman who was smart, or kind and pure of heart. His only requirement was that she be an unrivaled beauty. In short - Narcissus was quite shallow .

Fed up with Narcissus' behavior the Gods cursed him to fall in love with someone of great beauty that he could not truly have. This unrequited love would be his punishment.

His fate unbeknownst to him, Narcissus wandered the forest and stopped at a pool of water to quench his thirst. Upon looking at his reflection he instantly fell in love. Not the smartest guy, Narcissus was not aware that the thing of beauty he beheld was himself!

Unable to tear himself away from his new love, Narcissus stayed at the pool edge. He was quite upset with life that this beautiful being refused to leave the pool and join him. Unable to get over this unrequited love Narcissus was unable to eat or drink. He grew quite frail from the lack of nourishment. Eventually he perished .
