Egg
The egg is a tiny, round object. The female butterfly lays her eggs on carefully selected leaves.

Larva
When the butterfly larva (or caterpillar) hatches from its egg, it is very small! During this stage, caterpillars only have one job: to eat!

Pupa
During this stage, the caterpillar creates a protective shell called a cocoon . The caterpillar stays the cocoon while it grows to become a butterfly!

Adult
When the cocoon is hatched, the adult butterfly is free to fly in the sky!
