For the Love of the Game

by Phil D'Agnese

Johnny

Johnny and his friends love getting together and playing baseball during the summer time.  They always go to Blackwell Fields to play their games.

Blackwell Field

Blackwell Fields has become Johnny and his friend's main place that they play baseball. They have all the necessary equipment and only play with their group of friends

One day when Johnny's best friend Timmy gets up to bat he blasts a home run into the woods at the end of Blackwell Fields. The boys go looking for the ball, but cannot fnd it...

That was the only baseball that the boys had to play with and had been used for a lot of their games. Now what will they do to keep playing at Blackwell Fields...?

The only solution that any of the boys could seem to think of was for Johnny to take the ball his dad had in his bedroom... Johnny did not like this idea at first, but he went along with it because he loved to play ball so much he knew his dad would understand

Johnny did indeed decide to steal his dad's baseball from his room, but what Johnny did not notice was that it was signed by Babe Ruth

Johnny could not even get outside of his house before his father catches him walking out with another baseball.  Johnny trys to explain that it is an extra one he had in his room, but his dad saw the signature on the ball in Johnny's hand and knew what ball it was.

Johnny's dad gets angry with Johnny and decides to punish him by not letting him go play with his friends. ...

Later that week, Johnny and his dad sit down and talk about the situation.  Johnny's dad tells him that what he did was wrong and that he should have just told him that he needed another ball and Johnny's dad would have gotten one for the boys.

After Johhny's dad and him sit down and talk Johnny realizes his mistake.  He also learned about honesty and the different types of actions that show it and that don't.  Johnny also learned how stealing is wrong and considered a crime, anyhwere else but in his house

After Johnny learned his lesson throughout his punishment, his parents took him out to buy him a set of new balls to have for a while.  They were happy that he learned that stealing is not right and is also a form of lying.  They allowed Johnny to go back out and play with the rest of the boys at Blackwell Fields
