The Land of Shapes:

Beginnings

by: Amanda Dane

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom that floated in the sky.

This kingdom was called Katachi.

Katachi was made up of four main islands, all of which floated. Each of these islands had different types of people on them, that did various things for the whole kingdom.

The first island was the Land of the En.

The En were a people that loved circles and the freedom that came with circles.

Every En had a pair of light and feathery wings that allowed them to fly.

They were really good at cooking, art, flying in airplanes, and boxing.

The En were responsible for innovating the three islands and making sure that creativity was kept alive.

The second island was that of the Sanka.

The Sanka loved triangles and the sharp clarity of triangles.

They were good at using swords, creating various potions to help people, and many different forms of magic, including flying on brooms.

They were also responsible for the mailing system of the islands.

The third island was the home of the Shika.

The Shika were a people that loved the sameness and cleanness of squares.

The Shika were good at consruction, paperwork, writing and inventing new things.

They were responsible for buliding new inventions for the kingdom and fixing things that were broken.

The final island, which was at the center of the kingdom, was the Academy.

The Academy was a school where every child from the other three islands came to learn how to do what their jobs would be.

The jobs each person had was based both on their own personal choice, as well as what they would be able to do best, based on where they were from.

This year is extremely special for the Academy because the three princesses from each island are attending their first year at the Academy.

The princesses were at the Academy so that they would be able to learn how to responsibly lead thier kingdom and be able to use the powers given to them through their families by the gods to protect the kingdom as whole.

It will be a long journey for these three princesses, fillied with both joy and sorrow, as they grow up and become wiser, so that they can protect the Kingdom of the Katachi.

Each of the princesses has a varying personality and unique abilities.

The princess of En, Elise, is very bold and loves adventure. She has a tendency to rush into things and does not like "girly" things. She is quite good at flying with her wings, boxing, as well as a wind technique that is used by rapidly spinning her wisk around.

The princess of the Sanka, Gwen, is a very "girly" girl who likes to wear and make fashionable clothes and make things look pretty. She does not like to do things considered to not be girly or to get dirty. She is extremely good at using magic with her wand, as well as flying on her broom. She also is good at making potions, but considers this to not be "girly".

The princess of the Shika, Samantha, is a polite yet shy young girl who is not all that confident in herself yet. She has been very sheltered in the past because of her mother's untimely death when she was born and because her father constantly worries about Samantha. Also as a result, Samantha does not like situations that could be dangerous.

Samantha is extremely good at making inventions and building new things. However, she has not gotten many chances to tap into her potentail due to her father's over protectiveness of her.

Meanwhile, it is the first day of school for all of the Academy students, including our three princesses.

The Headmaster gives a welcoming speech where he explains how the Academy works. There are six grade levels in the Academy, and six professors who teach all of the courses at the Academy. Whom you get is dependent on what your skills are in later years, but all of the first and second years, will take introductory courses with each professor.

The Headmaster also explains some of the values of the school, such as truth, equality, and balance between all of the Katachi as a whole, as well as a few of the rules.

He then shows us the six prefects, older students with really good grades that act as both mentors and people that enforce the rules to the students.

The Headmaster then dismisses the student body and has each class year go to a different prefect.

The prefect for the first years is Evelyn, a Sanka who uses a lot of wind magic to float in the air.

She goes over some more of the rules and gives room assignments to all of the students, who all are in either doubles or triples. She also takes the first years to thier dorm section, where thier rooms are.

Gwen is not happy with this and demands a single, but Evelyn states that it is the rules for all first years to be in either a double or a triple.

Evelyn then shows the students where the girl's side is and where the boy's side is and lets everyone get settled in.

The three princesses, who were all given the same room, then went in to their room.

Elise, who is always friendly to anybody new she meets, introduces herself first.

Gwen, who is still angry about having to share a room, gives a very brief introduction, as she feels that as a princess, everyone should already know her name.

Then, after a bit of time, Samantha, introduces herself, with a lot of politeness and shyness involved.

They then all think about each other as they unpack thier things.

Elise thinks that Gwen is a very spoiled brat, who is extremely mean, and that Samantha, while really shy, is a lot nicer than Gwen.

Gwen thinks that Elise has no fashion sense or grace what so ever and does not like her at all. Gwen thinks that Samantha has a fairly decent fashion sense and knows good manners.

Samantha thinks while Elise is very brash, she thinks Elise is a really nice person. Samantha feels that Gwen, like her, may not have had as many chances to see other places and is able to relate to her. Plus, she really likes Gwen's dress.

After they finish unpacking, they then all go to bed.
