Andy is excited to play his new game!
Hi I'm Andy!

Hi! My name is Andy, and I just turned 8.  Today I’m able to go onto the computer and play computer games.

Spongebob Video Game!!
The game I want to play!

There is this really cool game that I want to play.  All my friends are playing it and now I am finally going to play it with them.

When I went onto the computer for the first time, I went to the website to play the game.

What my computer looks like!
my computer!

A website is a place where you can go onto the computer to play games or find stuff that you like.  It's really cool what a computer can do!

When I went to play the game, it wanted to know all these things about me, like my name and address.

I asked my big sister if I should give them my address and my full name.  She said, “if it is a a credible site I would give them my information.  i don't think anything will happen if you do it."

my sister and her dog tried to help me
This is my sister and our dog, Buster!

My sister's information didn't seem right to me.  So I went to my mom and dad for help.  I knew that they would be able to help me!

I think Andy needs some help!
I asked my parents for help!

“Mom. Dad.  I need help with something.”  I explained everything to them, and even showed them the registration page.

They looked at me, smiled, and said, “good thing you didn’t sign up for this.  It’s not a credible website.”  They sat down and explained why I shouldn’t share my information with this website.  They told me, “Andy, when you put something on the Internet, it leaves a ‘digital footprint’ .  You need to be smart about what you put on the Internet.”

I know what my parents are talking about!!

“I know what that is!!  It means that when I put something on the Internet, it will stay there forever.  So when I go online, I should make smarter choices about what I share with people and what I keep to myself.”

Since that talk with my parents, I have learned what I should share and what I should not share with people on the Internet.

I know that whenever I put something on the computer it will stay there forever, so I really need to watch myself and limit my “digital footprints.”

Whatever goes on the Internet stays there forever!
