Quincy Ford was not an ordinary young boy. While all the other children were our playing, Quincy seemed more interested in what his father did for a living. He would always see how his father was passionate about his work, but never truly understood what he did. Quincy felt that his father was not like every other father he was always well dressed, and Quincy knew his father was important. Quincy's father's job was unique, he was an Engineer, in charge of making sure bridges were structurally sound. Although Quincy was not quite sure of what exactly his father did, he knew that he wanted to grow up to be just like him.

One day Quincy's frustration couldn't take it anymore. He burst into his fathers office, and told his father that he needed to know once and for all exactly what his father did. His father told him exactly what he had told him many times before, that he was in charge of making sure new bridges were going to be structurally sound. This was not a good enough answer for Quincy, and only left him confused. His father further explained that when new bridges are being designed, his father would make sure that the bridge would be able to withstand the various elements that bridges must endure . His father showed him a current project that he was developing. This only sparked Quincy's interest further.

In the weeks to follow Quincy would spend an hour in his fathers office learning about the various types of bridges. His father would tell him about how the first bridges were made from fallen trees to cross rivers. Later bridges would cover distances of up to 50 feet, only using twine and wood from trees. It was not till hundreds of years later that engineers like Quincy's father came about. Now bridges covered distances of up to 200 ft.

Now that Quincy had a good background on the different types of bridges and what his father did, he was ready to go see everything he learned first hand. Quincy, along with his father, decided to take a trip to his father's current project. Quincy was in amazement. At just 8 years old and 4'11", Quincy stood proudly along side his father.

At 8 years old, Quincy felt his life was complete. He had finally understood what his father did for a living, and why he was so important. Quincy was now satisfied and could now go join his friends outside. Although Quincy may not have bragged to his friends, he knew just how special his father was.
