My Dog Buddy

My dogs name is Buddy, he was born on November 14, 2011. That makes him 1 year and 9 months old in human years and about 12 years old in dog years. Dog years go up by 7 so for every 1 human year it equals 7 dog years. I rescued Buddy as an 8 month old puppy from someone that could not take care of him any longer. It was one of the best decisions I ever mad.

Buddy is a purebred Border Collie. Border Collies are said to be one of the  smartest and hardest working dogs in the world. They are extremely energetic, acrobatic, and athletic.

Border Collies were originally called the "Scotch Sheep Dog" and originated along the borders of Scotland and England. Herders from Scotland and England would use Border Collies to gather and fetch their sheep or cattle. They are still used today for that same  intended purpose.

Although sheep herding is in Buddy’s genes, I do not have any sheep for him to herd. I use his agility, speed, intelligence and desire to work for his favorite activity of playing Frisbee. Buddy is a disc dog meaning he can catch a Frisbee in the air and return it. Every year there are Disc dog competitions held all around the world. Buddy is in training to compete in these competitions, we play Frisbee a minimum of twice a day every day.

Buddy is the perfect dog for me and is everything I wanted. Although, his breed may not be suitable for everyone. He requires constant interactions with his owner, excessive exercise, and needs to be mentally stimulated all the time. A lot of hard work and responsibility is needed to keep him happy and healthy.
