Scene 1: Interior Palace
4 princesses are sleeping. One begins to yawn and wake.
Princess Kiana
(waking and yawning)
Good morning sisters!
Princess Jeanette
I’m so excited! Today is a very special day!
Princess Lauren:
Today is our sister, Princess Teana’s 16th birthday!
Princess Jeanette
Look at her! She is still sleeping!
Isn’t she so lovely sleeping there without a care!
Princess Kiana
(jumps on her sleeping sister)
Wake up sleepyhead!
Princess Teana
But why? It’s only 10 AM !
….and its Saturday!
Princess Lauren
But we have work to do!
Princess Jeanette
We have to paint the ballroom blue!
Princess Teana
(yawning and rolling over)
Nah! You all go ahead!
As for me, I’ll stay in bed.
Scene 2: Janitor’s Closet in the Palace
Princess Lauren
Oh no! We are all out of blue paint!
Princess Jeanette
Whatever shall we do!
Princess Kiana
We shall make more!
Princess Jeanette
But we need the Blue Orchid that lives deep in the forest!
Princess Lauren
Who will we get to go and retrieve it for us?
Princess Kiana
We shall ask our brother, the prince, Sir Noah the Third!
He is a great knight and loves all of his sisters dearly…especially me!
Our brother, Sir Noah will do anything for me!
Scene III: Stables
Princess Jeanette
Oh good brother Noah, we need your help!
Princess Lauren
You haven’t forgotten that it is our sister,
Princess Teana’s birthday have you?
Princess Kiana
We are completely out of blue paint
With which to paint the ballroom!
Prince Noah
And, what do you expect me to do about this lack of blue paint?
Princess Kiana
Dear brother Noah, we want you to go and find the great Blue Orchid!
The great Blue Orchid has the most beautiful shiny petals!
They are almost like pearls.
We need you to bring back the Blue Orchid so that we may use
its delicate petals with which to make paint!
Prince Noah
(bowing)
For you my littlest sister I will do anything!
Quickly, bring me my armor and my horse!
One princess brings hi8m his armor, another his horse and yet another his sword.
ALL PRINCESSES
(together in unison)
Goodbye dear brother!
Fare thee well on your quest!
However, DO NOT come back without the Blue Orchid!
If you cause our dear sister to cry on her birthday because the ballroom is not blue;
There will be no birthday cake for us to share with you!
Prince Noah
But, but, but…
ALL PRINCESSES
Buh byeee!
(All the princesses walk off stage right as Noah leaves stage left)
Princess Kiana
(Running back with a blue scarf in her hand)
Wait dear brother!
Here is a magic scarf to keep you safe on your journey
and it is just the color blue to remind you of the flower that you seek!
(She hugs him around his waist and he pats her head and then exits stage left)
Scene IV: The Forest
Prince Noah
This forest is so dark and scary!
When I get scared I get hungry!
Look delicious berries!
I will pick some of those and eat them to keep me nourished.
Dove
Oh no, Prince Noah! Don’t eat those berries!
Can you not see for yourself? Even the birds avoid those berries,
as they are poisoned and will do you great harm.
Here pick some of these nice delicious strawberries instead.
Prince Noah
Oh thank you kind dove! You have saved my life!
You seem very familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?
Your lovely coo reminds me of my sister Princess Kiana, when she sings in the early morning.
Dove
Perhaps you have mistaken your sister’s voice for my lovely morning song.
You are quite welcome Prince Noah!
Good luck on your quest and be on your way!
(The Dove exits stage right as Prince Noah continues riding and slashing through the forest.)
Scene V Deeper and Darker In the Forest
Prince Noah
Such a nice dove! I am glad I did not eat those poisonous berries!
I must certainly keep on the lookout as the forest is much deeper and darker now.
Wait what’s that rustling in the bushes!
Sorceress
STOP! Who dares to desecrate my forest!
Prince Noah
It is I, Sir Noah the Third, but I mean no harm to your forest, dear Madame!
If indeed this forest does belong to anybody.
Sorceress
Sir Noah the Third eh! Aren’t you the Prince of the Realm who has four sisters all of which are obsessed with the color blue?
Prince Noah
That would be me! I just wish to pass through!
Sorceress
Well you and your silly sisters have a slight oversight!
Your sister’s party is today and to me came no invite!
I will make sure you never get the Blue Orchid.
I’ve been waiting very patiently and checked the mailbox twice.
No one gets away without inviting me, so I cast you in a block of ice!
A large roar is heard stage right.
Enter the Lion.
LION
Silly Sorceress, tricks are for kids!
The mail doesn’t come on Sunday you know!
You need to recheck your mailbox today!
SORCERESS
(pulling an invite from a mailbox and excitedly jumping around)
An invite! An invite! An invite for me!
I am sorry Sir Noah and turn you back at the count of three!
One! Two! Three!
Wheeeeeeee!
( The Sorceress exits stage left)
Prince Noah
Thank you Sir Lion! I will never forget,
the kindness you’ve given me and have no regrets!
But you seem very familiar to me dear Lion?
For at first, I thought I knew your roar
It reminds me of my dear sister Princess Lauren
when she snores.
LION
Be that as it may,
its time that you were on your way!
The Blue Orchid you must find today,
so hurry on do not delay!
Scene VI A Clearing in the Forest
( The PRINCE chops at vines with his sword)
PRINCE
This forest is getting awfully thick!
I do hope the flower appears to me mighty quick!
AHHHHHHHH! There you are my precious!
But alas, your lovely azure petals lie within an ugly bed of thorns
how will I reach to harvest you without causing myself harm!
(The PRINCE reaches out to pick the flower and pricks his finger!)
OWWWW! Bad Blue Orchid! Bad!
My finger you have pricked!
I’m feeling very sleepy now
and perhaps a little sick.
(The PRINCE falls asleep)
Enter THE ELEPHANT from stage left.
ELEPHANT
Alas sweet prince! You sleep so deep!
I will carry you and the Blue Orchid home
so that your lovely sisters will not weep!
But first I will bind your wounds with the magic of this small blue scarf
As soon as all can count to three you will be home upon your hearth!
One! Two! Three!
Scene 7 Interior Palace
PRINCE
(Waking up)
Whoa! I just had the strangest dream!
That I found the Blue Orchid
and a giant elephant saved me…wait!
What?!
Now I’m home it seems?
THE THREE PRINCESSES Enter Stage Right
THREE PRINCESS
(in unison)
Oh dear brother you are back!
And what is that you’ve brought us in that sack!
The PRINCE opens the sack and pulls out the Blue Orchid.
PRINCE NOAH
It appears that what I perceived a dream
has really all been true.
For I have brought back the Blue Orchid
And we can paint the ballroom blue!
PRINCESSES
(in unison)
YAY! On this day dear brother you have certainly proved your due,
Our sister’s birthday will occur without a hitch
All because of you!
A large cake is wheeled out!
PRINCESS KIANA
Quiet everyone here she comes
She certainly has been the sleepy one!
PRINCESS TEANA
(Yawning)
Well it is almost 5PM, I guess its time that I should awake
Wherever did you get that great big cake?
PRINCESSES AND PRINCE
(in unison)
Happy Birthday dear sweet sister Teana!
We love you through and through!
This great big cake is for your birthday
And the ballroom is bright blue!
