MOLLY AND SOLLY LEARN A LESSON

Written and illustrated by Rivka Brecher

Molly and Solly were best friends.

They lived right next to each other in the same garden.

They loved to play and have fun together.

Every morning as soon as they woke up they would hear their mothers call,

“Before you go to play you mustn’t forget to spread your leaves and bask in the sun.

Every afternoon their fathers would remind them to stretch their roots and drink water.

And they did.

One day Solly woke up and told Molly that he was tired of spreading his leaves and stretching his roots. He didn't want the hot sun to bake him and his roots were not in the mood of drinking. Today he just wanted to play.

So, Solly ran off to play. Molly sat all alone in the sun. She missed Solly.

The next day Molly woke up and didn’t see Solly anywhere.

“He ran off to play without basking in the sun,” said Solly’s mother sadly.

“He’s not drinking his water,” huffed Solly’s father.

Solly’s parent's looked worried.

Molly was sad. She missed Solly.

The next day Molly woke up and was happy and surprised to see Solly standing next to her.

“Solly!” she exclaimed. “I’m so happy you’re here today!”

All Solly could do was whisper back,” I don’t feel well.”

Molly took a closer look at Solly and noticed that he seemed to be wilting .

She got very worried.

Molly yelled for her parents to come and see what was wrong with Solly.

“He’s not getting enough sunlight!” said Molly’s mother.

“He’s not getting enough water.” said Molly’s father.

“He needs sunlight and water to be strong and beautiful,” said Solly’s parents.

“So what should he do now?” cried Molly.

He must spread his leaves and bask in the sun,” said the mothers.

“He must stretch his roots and drink a lot of water, “ said the fathers.

“And then he’ll be healthy and grow taller.” said all the parents together.

And he did.

After that Molly and Solly never forgot to listen to their parents. Even though they knew it's more fun to play, they knew they had to get sunlight and water to be strong and beautiful, to be healthy and to grow tall.
