Francis Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, and passed away on December 21, 1940.

He was one of the most famous authors of the 1920's, a time he named the "Jazz Age".

"The Great Gatsby" was released in 1925 and is widely considered to be one of the greatest representations of the "Roaring Twenties".



Setting

The story takes place in New York City.

The main characters live outside the city in East Egg and West Egg (fictional representations of the Hamptons).

Many people were leading a life of decedance after the success of World War I.

Jazz dance halls were frequented by the younger crowds, but prohibition still prohibited alcohol.
