Tall tales are humerous stories about impossible events. 

Hyperbole, or exaggeration, is used to emphasize the main character's qualities and create humor.

Tall tales are often set in the southern areas of the American frontier.  Sharing stories such as tall tales became an important part of the southern culture in the early 19th century.
