The Planets of the Solar System



This is the sun.  Lets learn about the order of the planets starting with the planet closet to the sun.



This is the planet Mercury.  It is not only the closet planet to the sun but it is also the smallest out of the eight planets in the Solar System.



Venus is the second closest planet to the sun.  After the Moon, Venus is the brightest natural object in the night sky.



Earth is the third planet closest to the sun.  Some other names for Earth are, "the world" or "the Blue Planet".  



Mars is the fourth planet from the sun.  Mars is known as a terrestrial planet.  It is made up of primarily silicate rocks and metals.



Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun.  It is also the largest planet in the Solar System!



Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun. Saturn is mostly seen as  a pale yellow hue.  



Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun.  Uranus is commonly placed in a category called "ice giants". 



Neptune is the eighth, and furthest planet from the sun.  Neptune was named after the Roman god of the sea.
