What is a whale?

  • A whale is a large, smart, ocean mammal.
  • Whales live in the ocean and breathe air through a blowhole.
  • Whales participate in many different swimming activities.
  • Whales are the only mammals that live their entire lives in the water.


SWIMMING AND OTHER WATER ACTIVITIES

  • Whales swim by moving their flukes up and down.
  • Breaching - When a whale jumps high out of the water and slaps the water as it comes back down.
  • Logging -The whale lies still at the surface of the water and rests.
  • Whales love to be social and play with each other.

Biggest Whale 

  • Blue Whale 
    • Can grow up to 94 feet

Smallest Whale

  • Dwarf Sperm Whale
    • Can grow up to 8.5 feet
