My First Train Ride

A child's guilde to their first trip.

Today I am going on my very first train ride. I arrive at the train station and see so many new things and hear sounds I have never heard before.

Inside the train station  there is a ticket counter and places to sit. At the ticket counter the agent processes my reservation and gives me a ticket. After this I have a seat and wait untill the boarding call.

Outside of the station  on the platform  I see the train engine. It is huge and it roars. I can hardly hear the announcement from the stationmaster  that it is time to board the train.

The person who is trained to operate the train is called the engineer. They make the train go faster and slower. No need to steer for the train follows the track.

The engineer follows the signal displyed on the signal towers that are on the side of the track to deterime the speed of the train and if it is all clear to move through. Different colors and sequence  of the lights mean different things just like a traffic light.

The train tracks cross over many roads and at each crossing the train engineer blows the horn as gates come down to block the roadway for the train to move through safely.

When the all aboard call is announced I move outside to the platform  and board the train where the conductor  takes my ticket and directs me to my seat. The train horn sounds and the train starts to move.

There are many different kinds of cars on this train. There are coach cars with large comfy seats and large windows to view the scenery passing by.

The lounge car has tables for playing games, huge windows and a counter to buy snacks and drinks. There are also tv's set up that show movies for the people who are sitting in there.

When it is time for dinner there is the dining car. It is setup just like a restaurant with tables, chairs, plates and glassware. I place my dinner order with the train attendant and they return with yummy food. Sometimes they serve ice cream after dinner.

The End
