DEFEATING FASCISM

Pearl Harbor
U.S. Enters War

The United States entered World War Two in large part due to the bombing of a naval base in Hawaii called Pearl Harbor.  Japan engaged in a surprise attack on this base and killed over 2,000 Americans.  Japan was one of the fascist countries that were trying to expand their territories.  They wanted to knock out the power of the U.S.  However, the U.S. was able to come back and eventually win the war.

The Battle of Britain
The U.S. helps Britain pick up the pieces

How did the United States help win the war in Europe?  The United States gave military aid and soldier support to Great Britain.  This helped Great Britain battle Germany who was trying to take over all of Europe.  Great Britain was the last country in Europe that was not taken over by Germany.

D-Day
The D-Day Invasion of Europe

D-Day was the code name of the invasion of Europe by the Allies to take back the territory it lost at the beginning of the war.  It was led by the United States and involved a mass invasion of troops, tanks, and air support.  It led to the destruction of Germany and the end of the war in Europe as a result.

Hiroshima
The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima

D-Day helped end the war in Europe.  How did the war in Asia end?  The United States decided to drop the atomic bomb on two Japanese cities.  The first was on Hiroshima as shown above.  The second was on Nagasaki which forced Japan to surrender.  Each bomb killed over 100,000 people and changed the world forever.

WW2 Deaths
Deaths by country in World War 2

World War Two was the most destructive war the world has ever seen.  Above are the horrifying statistics of how many people died from each country due to this war.  The deadly forces of the fascist countries of Germany, Japan, and Italy killed many people all over the world.  This included the killing of over six million Jews by German forces, also known as the Holocaust.  The Soviet Union suffered the most deaths out of all the countries that were in the war.  The fascist countries were finally defeated in the year 1945.
