When I Was Younger I Remember When.....

I can remember when I was growing up that things in life seemed very simple.  We drank water from the hose, we walked to King Kole Market to get a pack of corn tortillas and if my mom was not home when I got out of school I would climb the tree go over the fence and go in through the back door.

I would go out the front door and down the walkway to the street.  I walked with my older sister to school every morning.  We crossed the street and passed old man Scheinler’s house every morning to join the parade on the pathway to school.

You could hear the noise of blocks stacking, the swish of paint as the students slop the brush back and forth.  Play time in the class was the most amazing time a kid could ever imagine.

We stood in line to ride the three wheel chrome tricycles that peddled really fast but rode slow.  As the boys peddled their hardest leaning to the left as they took a rightside curve around on the fast-track of room one at Ada S. Nelson school.

I remember the sand box, the smell of lunch cooking in the cafeteria and nap time when I was in Kindergarten with Mrs. Longfellow.  Mrs. Longfellow has been a long life friend of my mother.

I remember the classroom feeling so safe and inviting to be there.  The colors, the toys, the piles of manipulatives.  The cubby holes in the class that makes kindergarten a special place to be.

I remember when we had art time in Mrs. Longfellow’s room.  The painting isle, the clay station, there were big fat over-sizes crayons in every color with big sheets of newsprint.  I loved art time.

Bringing to life all five senses in a young children is a challenge.  All children should have a great kindergarten experience in their life.  This is the time when they learn to love school.  Our classes should be inviting, educational, feel safe but most of all it should be an environment of learning that is sensational! An experience to remember.....
