Effective research aides for high school students

www.edmodo.com

Edmodo is a free online website that allows for students and teachers to build learning networks and connect with peers, educators and other people involved in education.

Edmodo is a good networking tool that a teacher can use to host class discussions, post assignments and grades, and promote online learning tools to students. It is a viable alternative to Facebook and the online interface could accommodate those students who are shy, or slow to develop opinions, and who, as a result would not benefit from traditional lectures or discussions

Edmodo is free and available to all, however children under 13 years of age must have parental permission before signing up.

Scoop It is a stylized search engine with the capacity to gather and display the information you find on it. This side is invaluable to students as it filters all the raw data you would find on, say google, into streamlined, topic relevant web links, thus enabling access to higher quality content. As well, the added feature of being able to save and post your findings in an organized presentation on the site has great implications for homework assignments and research papers.

The user-friendly online interface and support system, in the form of active site curators, can help students who lack organizational and/or research skills, who are unable to easily access a physical library, or who are looking for inspiration on a topic.

Scoop.it is available to anyone over the age of 13.
