Mathplayground

Mathplaygroung

The purpose of MathPlayground is to give students a funnier way to improve their solving skills. It gives access to math games and logic games, and also to videos that answer questions submitted by students. It could be useful in a classroom where kids are struggling with some concepts and for those who learn better using technology. It is also available on the apple store and can be used on an iOs device. It can bring barriers down to those who are more visual as well. The website does not collect any personal information from children and/or parents. It is a free tool that can be used by students from Grades K-8.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is an amazing tool for math as well, for students from K-12. When the student to it, you get to do a pretest that will evaluate your learning level. When this test is over, the student can practice and improve his or her math skills by trying to go through the exercises proposed by Khan Academy. If they can’t get the answer, there are hints and explanations where they need it. This tool can help kids by letting them go at their own pace and work on what they are struggling with. Plus there are over 2000 videos of great lessons explained in details. It can be useful for students to see a concept from another perspective. They can also ask questions to their peers and answer questions as well. There are videos available for teachers. As a new teacher, it can be really helpful to see how a concept can be explained to make it easier for the classroom.  It can also be used for flip classroom, where the students have to watch the videos at home and then work in class, so they can get help if they need to. To register, the student needs to be 13 and over, but younger kids can have access to it with the parents’ consent.

 Headmagnet.com

Head magnet is a studying website where the student types in terms and definitions he or she needs to know for an exam. This would be really useful for a secondary level. The definitions typed in can be shared with friends, which can also be used to peer studying. It is free to used and available for students who are 13 and over. Some students do not know how to study or where to start, and some cannot stay focused when they are reading and/or writing. It can make studying more interesting for those who like to work with technology and need a way to study. Once everything is typed in, it gives them the chance to test and review what they know by different quizzes, like writing the word that fits with the definition. Teachers can also share the lists with them.
