Screencast-O-Matic

http://screencast-o-matic.com

Screencast-o-matic is a great tool for both students and teachers. It is a way for students or teachers to use the "screenshot" idea in a viedo form. So you get to record what you do on your computer you can resize and adjust how much of your desktop screen you want to see but whatever you do, whatever you click, or whatever page you go to once you hit record it films EXACTLY what you do. Also because there is a mic on your computer it records your voice. A great example of this in a classroom would be if you need to explain to your students how to get to a specific website to watch a movie. You can record how to do it and then walk around the classroom while it's playing and show your students! Great tool!

Screencast-O-Matic

As previously explained this tool is great for students and teachers. In the student aspect for a project or presentation. Another form of powerpoint (or something you can fit into your powerpoint) you can stop and start the recording at anytime this way it's like your own personal editing making it easy to navigate and only put in areas you want other students or your teacher to see.

This tool is GREAT for almost every student, it provides audio, visionary and even kinsthetic learning. It incorportates all students, even students who are hearing impaired they can visually see how to navigate to the website or program you as a teaching are trying to explain. There are many different features and you can play or stop at anytime so if you get confused you can rewind and fast forward in order to make sure you complete the task expected.

Here is a link to MindMeister's blog, explaining all the different people this tool is used for and who can benefit from it.

For example:

  • Teachers
  • Lawyers
  • Children with ASD
  • Students
  • Business Employers

This is great teaching tool, it helps students, organize, strategize and really expand on their learning in a creative, fun environment. Many kids often find making a mind map a great way to brainstorm and learn. Now teachers, students and outside jobs are all using this tool in order to brainstorm in a effective, efficient yet neat way. It groups everyone's ideas and makes it into a well thought out story. Grouping thoughts, opinions, ideas and facts where you see fit. A FANTASTIC study tool when having a lot of information thrown your way and being able to find a solution.

This includes all types of learners and it also includes a vast amount of population because it breaks down very complicated extreme amounts of information into what each person can handle. Like previously stated the link refers to all people that can benefit from this tool. So therefore the barriers of this tool are mostly if you have access to it or not.

TWITTER

Twitter is a social networking site that, "... helps you create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers" (Twitter)

Twitter is a great way to connect with peers, students, fellow educators, and anyone you are interested in sharing ideas with. You have the control to block, delete or keep your "tweets" private. You can "follow" or "retweet/Favorite" someone else's posts this gives credit to the person who came up with the tweet and it also is great method of sharing. Twitter is hip and cool and a great interactive way to keep people engaged in learning.

Twitter is a great way to express yourself it can provide barriers in the area that teachers, or respected authoritative individuals has to be aware of what they post. Even though twitter is completely a social networking sight where you can post what you like and say what you want, as a teacher or role model there is always something that will reflect back on you and something so minor can really affect your career in a negative way if you aren't careful. However other than that it hits all groupings of people, celebrities, business, media, schools, and endless oppportunities to interact with people all over the world.

Which brings me to the teaching aspect, this is a great tool to get opinions, ideas and advice from all different areas of teaching, and the world in general. It allows for people to interact and to promote their business or even promoting certain things for school, something as simple as a bakesale for cancer. Bottom line it gets the word out and allows for teachers, students and peers to interacte on a level that hasn't been created that is still appropriate and strictly acceptable in school manor. Something that people use everyday is working its way into education in a beneficial way!
