What Is SpeakIt?

SpeakIt is a text to speech extension for Google Chrome. Users highlight the text they would like read aloud, then click on the SpeakIt icon. The icon can also be used to pause and resume the text being read. The voices in SpeakIt can speak with different accents, in 12 different langauges, and at different speeds.

Having SpeakIt as a tool would allow for multiple means of representation for students. SpeakIt is good for students who struggle with reading at grade level. Students can install it on their laptops and iPads at home or at school, and use it for any text that can be accessed online. The ability to slow the speech down also makes it a valuable resources for ELL students. 


Comic Master is a website that allows users to make small scale graphic novels. Suers choose from a large variety of backgrounds, thought and speech bubbles, special effects, props, characters and more to create their story. Users are also able to save, edit, and print their graphic novels when they sign up for an account.

Using Comic Master in the classroom is providing multiple means of action and expression for students. Students who enjoy multimedia and visual represenation will thrive when given a graphic novel project. Comic Master also allows for a longer narrative with a graphic novel format, so students who excel can create more complex works. 


Evernote is a notetaking app that can be used on computers, tablets, and smartphones. It can sync to be available on all devices. The app allows for classic notetaking (i.e. typing) but also has audio notetaking and using photographs. Users can also share notes.

Evernote provides multiple means of representation for students. Students can take notes in whichever works best for them, whether it is typing, visual photographs, or audio recording. It also helps students who stuggle with organization as it collects all notes in one, impossible to lose place.
