A PowerPoint slide won’t do much good if it is difficult to read.  First you need to choose a font that is clear and legible.   Avoid decorative fonts.

Choose a font with clean lines that is easily read.  Arial, Calibri, and Tahoma are some examples of easily read fonts.

Choose a clean, solid background. It’s best to stick with a solid color, but if you must use a pattern, choose one that is very light.

You can have other design elements on the slide to make it more interesting, but make sure they don’t interfere with the text.  They should be placed in an area that still leaves a blank background behind the text.
