The egg phase is the first step to becoming a butterfly. Just like babies grow up to be adults, a butterfly must first start out as an egg before it can be a beautful butterfly. This egg is a small circle and is ususally around the size of a pea. The mother butterfly will attach her egg and leave it safley on a leaf.

Next is the caterpillar stage, during this stage the egg will hatch and out comes a colorful caterpillar. Catipillars can come in all differnent colors and can even have stripes. This is the time for the caterpillar to eat and eat until they can not eat anymore! A caterpillar's favorite meal is leaves!

This is stage three. The caterpillar has grown so big that he is very tired. He must build himself a bed to sleep in. His bed is called a Chrysalis, or a Pupa.

The caterpillar will sleep for a long time. When the caterpillar sleeps he is growing some more, but this time he will grow up to be a beautiful butterfly!

Caccoon

Adult Butterfly

The caterpillar was ready to wake up so he burst out of his caccoon and became a beautifl butterfly!

Butterflies need to learn how to fly, just like people learn how to ride bikes. So the butterfly has to practice flying. Once the butterfly learns how to fly he will go find food!
