The Grasshopper and the Ant
A fable by Jean de la Fontaine

The Grasshopper having sung all summer, found herself without food when the North Wind began to blow. Not one single piece of fly or grub did she have to eat.
La cigale ayant chanté tout l'été, se trouva sans nourriture quand lorsque le vent du nord se mit à souffler. Pas un seul mouche de mouche ou grub-elle à manger.
She went complaining of hunger to her neighbor - the Ant, pleading for a loan or a bit of grain to keep herself alive, ‘til the next spring did arrive, “I shall pay you back,” she said. “Before next August, on my word as a bug, I’ll pay both interest and principal.”
Elle est allée se plaindre de la faim à son voisin - la fourmi, plaidant pour un prêt ou un peu de grain pour se maintenir en vie, jusqu'au printemps prochain est-il arrivé, "je vais vous rembourser," dit-elle. "Avant le prochain Août, sur ma parole comme un bug, je vais payer intérêts et principal."
The ant was not persuaded: this not being one of her responsibilities. “What did you do all season long?” she said to the Grasshopper.
“Night and day I warbled, I hope that does not offend you.”
La fourmi n'a pas été convaincu: ce qui n'est pas l'une de ses responsabilités. "Qu'avez-vous fait la saison des compétences de temps?" dit-elle à la sauterelle.
"Nuit et jour, je gazouillement, je heure qui ne vous choque pas."
“You sang? I will not look skeptically, but now my friend it’s time to dance.”
"Vous avez chanté? Je ne vais pas regarder avec scepticisme, mais maintenant mon ami, il est temps de danser!"
