The Mother Goat

The Mother Goat lived alone with her young kids.  When she decided to go out to bring them water and food, and she warned them not to open the door for anyone.

A wolf was spying on her when she left, and he came to the door.

"Open up," he said. "I've got food and water for you."

The kids recognized his voice. "Go away," they said, "or our mother will come and get you with her horns."

The wolf left sad but decided to wait for a while.

Then he came back and imitated her voice. The kids were happy and opened the door. He sprang on them and carried them back to his lair.

Shortly afterward, the mother goat returned but did not find her children. She guessed it could only be the wolf and ran to his home. She jumped on his roof and started trampling with her feet.

"Stop it, stop it!" the wolf yelled. "You're destroying the home I built with my claws and teeth."

But the she-goat kept jumping up and down, forcing her hooves into the roof. When dust started falling on the wolf's head, he went outside to chase her. She charged at him with her sharp horns and tore him to pieces.

Thus, she managed to retrieve her kids unharmed and went back home very happy.
