Students and educators can create "Glogs" online, which are multimedia posters.

Through the creation of these easy to make posters students can demonstrate concepts and ideas without the pressure of having artistic skills.  Glogster can serve these students as an way to place them on equal footing.

Text, image and video can be incorporated.

I would use Glogster as a tool to keep the focus on the curriculum as opposed to artistic skills. Students can work independantly or as a team.

BUDGETTRACKER.COM

This is a site dedicated to managing your money and keeping out of debt.

As a future CTS Human Sciences teacher, this tool will provide a way for students become confident in ways to track household spending.

Students can balance a home and kitchen budget tied with meal planning, either as a group or individual students.

There are many interactive tools on it, such as charts and graphs as well as the ability to schedule income, and forecast incomes. Students can build a workable budget based on current market prices.

There are many great “HOW TO” videos for the site on YouTube, including one which walks you through creating your own app for your budget tracker.

The tools seem easy to navigate, and offer different ways to showcase the information to make it easier to understand for different learners.  It would also allow students to participate in group work, or independantly based on their preferences.

Because the budget tracker does the mathematical calculations for the students it will remove the need to be at a specific level of mathematical skill. The students simply need to input their information and Budget Tracker does the rest! While I would use this for all students, it would really benefit any students that stuggle in this area.

There is no fee to use this service, and there does not appear to be an age minimum to start an account.

BITSTRIPS

http://bitstrips.com

http://www.bitstripsforschools.com

Students can create comics stips or posters that share relevant messages for the class about topics such as Food Safety, Sewing Tips and Nutrition.

By utilizing technology in this way, students can focus on their message in a creative way without the pressure of demonstrating art skills.  The amount of options available is vast.  If students wish, they can create their own avatars/characters, but there are many already available and are easy to manipulate into the expression or pose they desire.

There are certainly many options on line for creating cartoons, but BitStrips for schools offers relevant backgrounds and items that can be added to effectively portray the desired message.

Bitstrips do not rely only on text to convey the message, so it is beneficial to language learners, students that have difficulty reading on the receiving end, and students that have difficulty conveying their message with simple text.

It is easy to navigate and extremely versitile.

While much of the regular site encourages you to connect through Facebook, it can all be done through email with, or without an account (which requires an email).

Utilizing Bitstrip for schools would avoid much of this, but there is a fee involved.

There does not seem to be an age restriction. Terms of use can be viewed here.
