American Documents: The Bill of Rights

The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments   to the constitution of the United States.

It is currently found in the National Archives in Washington D.C.



It was physically written by William Lambert, an assistent clerk  in the House of Representatives. 

 

It was signed by only four people, Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, John Adams, and the chief senate and house clerks  as witnesses. 


Amendment 1: The Five Freedoms

The first amendment guanrantees every person the right to free speech, religion, the press , assembly  and petition .



Amendment 2: Protection

 The citizens have the right to be protected by the countries militia , and to protect themselves.

Amendment 3: Peacetime

During a time of peace, the government can not make people give housing to soldiers.
