Once there were two boys who were best friends. Erik was four and Matthew was five. The boys did everything together. They played together, had lunch together they even enjoyed all the same television shows.

However the time came for Matthew to go to school. Since Erik was a year younger than Matthew he would not be attending school until the following year.

The boys were very sad that they would not see each other every day. Neither boy wanted to let the other one go. They both knew they would miss their special times together.

When Matthew went to school he did not have his friend Erik to play with. Matthew did not enjoy his lunch either, he missed Erik.

When it was time to go out and play Erik just sat on the steps, he did not feel like playing without Matthew. During lunch time Erik did not enjoy his lunch, he missed Matthew. While watching television Erik did not enjoy his favorite shows as much as he did when Matthew was around.

One day Erik overheard his Mom talking on the phone. When she hung up the phone she told Erik to get his coat on, they were having a special play date. Erik was very excited. When Erik got to the park with his Mom he saw Matthew on the slide. When Matthew saw Erik he leapt off the slide. The two boys ran to each other and gave each other a big hug.

Erik’s Mom explained that since the boys were missing each other so much twice a week the boys would get together for a play date. Erik and Matthew were so happy. Arm in arm the boys headed to the slide to play.
