The Girl Who Played Sick

By Breana Leonard & Danielle Lentini

After the second week of third grade, Emily wanted to figure out a way she could get out of staying in math class.

It finally came to her, she would pretend she had a stomach ache and ask to go to the nurse.

On Monday morning Emily asked her teacher to go to the nurse's office because she claimed she had a stomach ache.

Emily went into the nurse's office and told her about her stomach ache.  The nurse had her drink some water and called her mom to come pick her up.  Her mom arrived at the school soon after to take her home.

When she got home her mom put her in her bed and brought her some soup and crackers.

An hour later when her mom came upstairs to check on her, Emily was out of her bed, playing with her toys and video games.  Her mom knew she was lying.

A week later, Emily was in Math class.  She walked up to her teacher and asked to go to the nurse because her stomach hurt.  She got to the nurse's office, drank some water and waited again for her mom to pick her up.  She was so excited she got to go home again!

As soon as she got home she went right up to her room.  She laid in bed and her mom gave her soup and crackers.  As soon as her mom left the room she took out her toys and began to have a dance party.  Her mom heard and came up to stop the commotion.  Her mother knew she was lying.

Two weeks later, Emily sat in math class and started to feel sick.  She asked the teacher to go to the nurse's office.  When she got there she sat and had water.  The nurse called her mother, but her mother refused to pick her up from school.  The nurse sent Emily back to class.

When she got back to class, she really felt sick.  She suddenly started throwing up in her classroom!

She went back to the nurse and her mom came to pick her up.  When they got home her mom explained to her, "I did not come to get you because I did not believe you were really sick.  This is why you should not lie."  She brought Emily home and put her in her bed to get some rest.  Emily never lied about being sick again!
