The monarch butterfly life cycle begins as an egg.

A caterpillar emerges from the egg.

The caterpillar eats milkweed leaves to grow big and fat.

When the caterpillar is done eating, it wanders to find a place to hang.

The caterpillar makes a silk button to hang from and forms the shape of a "J".

Then the caterpillar makes a home around itself called a chrysalis.

Finally, the monarch butterfly emerges from the chrysalis.
