Google Docs is a free web-based office suite within Google Drive. Google Drive can be accessed with a free Gmail email address.

Google Drive allows users to create word documents, spread sheets and presentations either alone or in collaboration with others. When collaborating all changes and additions can be seen in real time as they happen.

Although there are many different Apps in the Google Drive we are going to learn about and how to use Google Presentation.

Google Presentation much like PowerPoint ® is a slide based presentation creation system however unlike PowerPoint ®, Google Presentation offers users the ability to collaborate in real time to build and edit presentations. Users will also be able to share completed presentations with others who are using Google Drive.

ISTE*Teacher- 3d.- Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

Now that we know what Google Drive is let's dive into Google Presentations and how it can be used in your classroom.

Google Presentations is a tool that really can be used in the classroom for many different things from lesson plannng, creating tutorials, presentation of information or pretty much anything you can dream up. There is no end to the uses for Google Presentation.

When using it it also allowes you to incorperate text, images and multimedia. When Presentation is used as tool for collaboration between the teachers and students is can allow users as well as allows teacher to provide feedback that is timly and can be used during the creation process.

Now I am sure you are wondering how is this going to be helpful to my students?

Google Presentation is not only allowing students to create presentations but it is going to allow students to more freely collaborate on one document without worrying about lossing work or trying to consolidate work done by individuals to one document.

The 24 hour availability of the Presentation to all those who are working on it or have access to it allows for quick feedback and real-time editing.

Lesson: You assign student to groups where they will read a chapter and take notes to help them teach other classmates, who are assigned to another chapter, about the reading. Once they group has completed reading their chapter and taking notes they will be asked to use their notes to create a 10 slide presentation including vocabulary and images to help teach others about their chapter.

You will have created a Google Presentation with chapters numbers as names that will be shared with the students prior to the lesson.

Your students will log into Google Drive and will open only the chapter that is theirs and will work to create the presentation based on the group notes. Once the work has been completed they will then share their presentation with you and one other group for evaluation.

Later on they can re-enter the chapter and make corrections or additions based on teacher and peer editing. In the end all students will have shared their completed and graded chapter with their classmates to help "teach" them.

You are now ready to plan and share lessons using Google Presentation.

Google Presentation is a wonderful tool that can be used to enhance teaching but teachers must keep in mind that when technology is integrated into learning it should not overshadow the main learning objectives. Instead it should be a tool that helps to engage students in their learning while pushing them to think outside the box.
