Web 2.0 Applications

My 3 Choices for K-12

I really enjoy watching TED TV, I think it's a great resource and educational tool. The idea of having an App called TED Ed, where students can learn about something, then build quizzes and test each other on their learning, sounds like a wonderful idea to me. Putting students in pairs or groups and them learning and picking things that they think would be important out of an educational could be very beneficial to them. It can be used with a variety of subject and help students zone in on specific ideas, themes, etc. Putting the assessment in their hands gives the learning another layer.

I found this app on Larry Ferrlazzo's website found here: http://larryferlazzo.edublogs.org/2012/07/10/the-best-web-2-0-applications-for-education-in-2012-%E2%80%94-so-far/

I have had the pleasure of being around my niece who is 10 and her friends a lot over the past few years and making videos is their number one favorite thing to do. I think that for elementary school aged students this would be a great app to use in the classroom. The sudents will be engaged, active, and interested in the app itself. Movie or video making can be added to any part of any assignment or curriculum component in the LA, social studies, health, physical education, music, drama, science, etc. subject areas. I think an app like this will enhance the experience tenfold, and many kids already know how to use this type of Apple app.

To use the app, the classroom must have access to Apple devices, if the school doesn't have them, we could get students to bring their own. Students would be in groups or pairs so their should be enough devices for everyone to take part.

The app can be downloaded at: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/imovie/id377298193?mt=8

I read about the use of IMovie @ http://dmourlam.wordpress.com/2012/11/29/10-apps-that-can-enhance-your-lessons-through-udl/

I think it would be really great for students to learn the basics of creating a website. This type of assignment can be added on to any type of school subject, or as a computer assignment on it's own. Language arts would for sure be the subject that immediately comes to mind for this type of web tool. Students could create a website/blog about what they are working on, and parents could access it for news about their childs learning. So I've chosen ZOHO as my third pick that I would use in my own classroom.

It can be found here   http://www.zoho.com/sites/
