Janet loved to ice skate at Riverside Skating Rink.  She loved it because she was really good at skating.  She had been skating since she was 3 years old.  Every time she went skating her mother made her wear her blue sweater and pink cashmere scarf.  Janet didn’t like to wear her blue sweater and pink scarf together.  She thought they clashed.  “Mom”, Janet said in a winey voice, “Why do I always have to wear this ugly sweater and funny scarf?”  Janet’s mom didn’t want her to get sick.  “Janet do you remember the last time you didn’t wear your scarf and sweater?” her mom asked.  “No I don’t remember, mom” Janet replied “That’s because you always wear it,  now let’s get going before the rink get’s full!” exclaimed Janet’s mother.

Janet and her mother made sure everything was in place, right before they left their home.  It was the only house in the neighborhood that was bright red.  You could see it from a mile away.  All of the other homes were white and yellow.

Janet’s mother also drove a bright car.  It was a bright blue car with green tires.  It was the smallest car in the neighborhood.  It was only big enough to fit two people, one person in the front seat and one person in the back.  Janet couldn’t wait until she had a chance to sit in the front and drive the car.  She could visualize herself driving all over the neigborhood.

When they got to the skating rink, Janet got on the ice right away.  She was skating around in circles really fast.  She was passing everybody on the ice.  In her mind, she was picturing herself driving her mother’s blue car.  “Beep, Beep! Get out of the way!” Janet giggled.  She felt as if she was on the highway.

As Janet passed the crowd in her imaginary car, she started to wave at them as if she were driving in a parade.  She waved and waved.  People began to wave back.  During her waving Janet tripped and fell over the cashmere scarf that she was wearing.  Very quickly a man that worked in the skating rink skated over and helped her up.  “You have to be a little more careful, I saw you going a bit too fast” he expressed concernedly.  Janet smiled, “thanks for helping me up, I must have tripped over this ugly scarf.”  “I think you fell because you were waving to the crowd and not looking at where you were going.”  The man said as he smiled and skated away.

Janet decided that she should slow down.  She wanted to make sure she did not fall again.  Instead of waving to the crowd she blended in and went at a comfortable speed.
