Welcome to my EDU 210 book on how to use Web 2.0 in the classroom!

My name is David Goertzen and I will be discussing numerous Web 2.0 tools that I believe would be beneficial to a high school science environment.

Please click the arrow below to continue onto the next page.

  • The name of the tool is Khan Academy.

  • You can find this tool at khanacademy.org

  • The tool is an online bank of videos that include a range of topcs such as mathmatics, arts, sciences, and test preperation.

  • This tool could easily be used to demonstrate to students a particular concept if they are not understanding it how the teacher is explaining it, or to review concepts or units from a course.

  • This tool could be used by learners who have difficulty focussing because they can skip back in a video to see a part that they may have missed. It is also beneficial to all learners as a great study guide.

  • If the student is under 13 years old, they need to sign up with a parents email address for security reasons.

  • The name of this tool is FoldIt

  • You can find this tool at http://fold.it/portal/

  • The tool allows for students to learn science concepts and theories by sloving puzzles on their downloadable software.

  • This tool could be used to combine fun while at the same time still learning concepts about science. This also covers biology, chemisty, and physics which are the main focus of high school science.

  • If a student was having difficulty with a concept, they would be able to use this tool to play around and give them a different medium to learn the science.

  • There was no statement on an age limit for FoldIt users, however it is geared towards being a tool that teachers provide to students.

  • The name of the tool is Science Buddies.

  • The website can be found at http://www.sciencebuddies.org

  • The main purpose of the tool is to help students come up with ideas for a science fair and help them execute their plan.

  • This would be an easy resource for any teacher who organized a science fair. It is a great resource for students to use, but at the same time it doesn't make the projects too easy for the students. They still have to work for the project.

  • A common problem in my experience with science fairs is that the students have no ideas about what they can report on. This tool allows students to find an idea that they are interested in and passionate about learning more on.

  • There is no statement on an age limit on the website.
