A volcano is a mountain that opens up below earth's surface and hot material erupts from it. Volcano eruptions can happen sometimes.  When there is a volcano eruption it looks like a can of soda exploding. 

What is Lava?

Lava is the molten rock that comes from a volcano during an eruption. Lava is a liquid that ranges in temperatures from 700-1,200 degrees Celsius. When lava hardens it turns into something called igneous rock. 

Magma and Magma Chambers

Magma gathers in little pockets that are called magma  chambers. When magma leaves the chamber it moves through some type of tunnel and or vent. Most magma erupts through the top of the volcano but sometimes it can come through the side!
