Active white space-is blank areas on a web page that are placed on purpose

alignment-the content of a page has the same alignment

consistency-to have uniformity from page to page

grid-is a conceptual design tool that divides a page into rows and columns in order to help the Webmaster structure the layout of a page

passive white space-is the blank areas on a Web page that area result of incomplete or mismatch shapes

proximity-refers to how close one element is to another

repetition-the process of repeating elements throughout a Web site



Printed based layout method- it takes into account that people are already accustomed to viewing content in printed material in a certain way

Screen based layout method-on a screen a user scan the content in an effective sweeping motion, this sweeping motion allows the user to take in more information more quickly



Warm colors- hues that obtain red

cool colors-containing color blue

color wheel-is an ordered progression of hues (or colors) that helps a designer easily understand and select color combinations

primary hues- additive collor wheel red, green, and blue (RGB)

secondary hues- are cyan, magenta, and yellow

tertiary hues- are red-yellow (orange), green-yellow, green-cyan, blue-cyan, blue magenta (violet), and red magenta

value- referring to lightness or darkness

tint- lightening a hue

shade- darkening a hue

complementary colors- colors that are located the opposite of each other on the color wheel

split-complementary colors- form an uneven traingle on the color wheel

triad colors- are 3 colors on the color wheel that have an equal amount of distance between each other

analogous colors- are 3 colors on the color wheel that are side by side 

bit- is the smallest unit of information that a computer understands

typography- is the act or art of expressing an idea byb utilizing type faces or symbols

web safe colors- a palette of colors of the 256 colors found on an 8-bit monitor there are 216 that are common among all computers


clip art- is ready made art that is available to use without having to edit it in any graphics applications

compression-means to make smaller, in a sense that the amount of information is reduced

File format-is the arrangement in which data is saved in order to display it in a certain way.

GIF- is a file format that can be viwed equally well on every kind of computer

icon- small symbolic graphic

index color-256 colors

JPEG- stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group

raster- graphics is an image that is made up of pixels

vector- image is based on mathematical formula
