"That looked like fun!" said the Bird.  "Can I be in the next race? The only problem is that your race courses would be too easy for me. I want a challenge, too!"

Terry's Tips

Designing Flexible Curriculum

How can a race course be built to work for everyone?  Setting a clear goal and providing students with options--either a choice or the opportunity to create their own path--can open doors for everyone.

How does this work in the classroom? Set and explain clear goals. Offer students a variety of options for reaching those goals, and engage them in coming up with options of their own. For example, rather than asking students to "write a story," ask them to "create a story," and offer options including text, images, video, and audio.

This builds in flexibility from the start!
