and the Tortoise got bored with the long, simple race course.

Terry's Tips

Scaffold coping skills and strategies

Now Tortoise has encountered a different barrier.  Have students point out what is interfering with Tortoise reaching the goal and what can be changed to help Tortoise maintain interest in the race.

Too distracting, too difficult, or too easy:  all these conditions are barriers to success.  Support students in developing the skills to recognize and develop strategies to overcome these barriers, and empower them to become more independent and proficient learners.

Suggest that they stop and think as they are working on something and ask themselves how they are doing. Is the task too hard, too easy, just right? Is it interesting to them? How can they change it to make it work better for them?
