Vavo used to collect periwinkles to eat for dinner. I wonder what periwinkles are, and why Vavo eats them.

I see in the picture that Vavo is collecting little shells from the rocks. I read that Vavo said he sometimes eats periwinkles for dinner. Periwinkles are sea snails that live inside small shells. You can eat periwinkles once you take them out of their shells.
