Chemistry Mnemonics

In a galvanic cell, electrons from one cell travel towards another. The cell where reduction happens is the cathode; the cell where oxidation happens is the anode. Remember REDuction at CAThode, RED CAT! Also, remember, ANode for OXidation--AN OX!

Electrons flow between the two cells. If reduction is gain of electrons and the cathode is where reduction happens, then the electrons must be flowing from the anode to the cathode!

A red cat and an ox are both animals. Red cat--reduction at the cathode! That means that an ox means that the anode is oxidation! I could also remember that both "reduction" and "cathode" begin with consonants, but "oxidation" and "anode" both start with vowels!
